New Year’s Day dip
Snohomish County is hosting a free polar bear plunge Jan. 1 at Martha Lake between Lynnwood and Mill Creek. Warm-ups start a half hour before the 1 p.m. plunge. Wacky attire is encouraged and could earn a best-costume award. Participants can heat up afterward with hot cocoa around a bonfire. Bring a dry change of clothes. Address: 16300 E. Shore Drive, Lynnwood. More info: www.snohomishcountywa.gov/DocumentCenter/View/30232.
New dog park: Lynnwood’s first off-leash dog park at Lynndale Park is likely to be opened in mid-January. The park is at 18927 72nd Ave. W. However, the location of the dog run is in the northwest corner, near the skate park off of Olympic View Drive. The dog park will have benches, a water station, waste bins, agility equipment and an area for shy dogs to hang out. An Eagle Scout project also is in the works.
City and county offices closed: Expect most public offices to be closed on Monday in observance of Christmas, which this year fell on Sunday. Snohomish County is among the agencies that observes Monday as the holiday. Other services, such as those at the Carl Gipson Senior Center in Everett, are closed Monday, as well. Regular city meetings may have been moved or canceled if they fall on Monday.
