Mural dedication
People are invited to the Rudy Wright mural dedication at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rudy Wright Memorial Field in Marysville. A mural created by a Granite Falls artist honoring Rudy’s life will be unveiled to the community.
Wright was owner of Rudy’s Recreation on State Avenue and a supporter of children’s sports. A volunteer Marysville Fire Department firefighter, Wright responded on a fire engine to clean up a fuel spill at a crash on northbound I-5 on Nov. 3, 1970. A car traveling south in the northbound lane crashed into the accident scene, killing Wright.
Summer field school on Whidbey: Teachers and high-school age students can apply for a four-day interactive field school at Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve on Whidbey Island this summer to learn about preservation and leadership. All program costs including lodging, meals and transportation during the program are provided by scholarship funds.
Five teachers and 45 students in grades 9 through 12 in the fall of 2013 will be chosen for the Discover Washington: Youth Heritage Project at Ebey’s Landing. Activities will include working on building preservation projects, harvesting mussels in Penn Cove, and partnering with a local chef to create a meal with locally grown food.
