See retiring Prowlers
Whidbey Island Naval Air Station plans an open house June 27 as part of the retirement of the last Navy EA-6B Prowler aircraft. The event is planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ault Field.
The Prowlers are being replaced with Growlers. Both kinds of aircraft will be on display during the open house and other aviation-themed activities.
EvCC ORCA program information session: Everett Community College’s Ocean Research College Academy (ORCA) is hosting an information session for visitors and prospective students at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 at its waterfront location, 1205 Craftsman Way, Suite 203, in Everett.
Attendees can review student work, meet faculty members, learn about the program and see the facility, including the oceanography research lab and 120-gallon seawater tank.
Two classrooms were added in fall 2014, and the program recently acquired a 34-foot custom research vessel. The expansion will allow more junior and senior high school students to participate in ORCA.
ORCA is an early college academy for high school students, who can earn up to two years of college credit while completing high school. The program uses the local marine environment as the unifying theme for academic disciplines.
ORCA also will have program information sessions March 19 and April 23.
