People who live in Lake Stevens can get rid of items they’d usually pay to dump during the city’s annual Spring Cleaning Day. Nonhazardous waste can be brought to the back parking lot of Cavelero Mid High School, 8220 24th St. SE, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. There will be a disposal site for bagged trash, a paper shredder for personal documents, a place to leave televisions or computers and a dump site for old tires taken off the rims. Hazardous waste like paints or chemicals won’t be accepted. People also can donate nonperishable food to the Lake Stevens Food Bank during the event. Identification showing an address inside city limits is required to throw things away for free.
Market halted for Lynnwood: The second year of the Lynnwood Farmers Market has been canceled. Not enough vendors registered to make the event viable. Last summer’s market ran Thursday nights at Wilcox Park.
Today is Loyalty Day: The Snohomish County Council proclaimed May 1 as Loyalty Day, thanks to an effort by Veterans of Foreign War Post 8870 of Edmonds.
Loyalty Day is a national observance that focuses on reaffirming allegiance to the United States, as well as reflecting on the privileges of democracy and liberty. The day was first recognized in 1949 in response to Communist Russian efforts to make May Day into a celebration of the Russian Revolution.
