Blood drive today in Monroe: A blood drive is planned from noon to 6 p.m. today at Cascade Community Church in Monroe in honor of 4-year-old Gavin Mayes, who suffers from leukemia.
Gavin, who was diagnosed about six months ago, has received several blood transfusions. His family wanted to hold the blood drive to help with the low supply of blood at the Puget Sound Blood Center.
About 50 people have signed up to donate blood, said his mother Charlene Mayes. People are free to drop in at the drive that will be held at the church at 14377 167th Ave SE, Monroe.
