Learn about Camp Fire Thursday

Families in the Lake Stevens area can learn more about Camp Fire USA at a meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lake Stevens Senior and Community Center, 1808 Main St., in downtown Lake Stevens.

In addition to offering programs and classes for kids, the organization has volunteer opportunities for adults.

Teens can learn lifesaving skills

Lynnwood Aquatic Volunteer Program offers an opportunity for young teens to gain lifesaving and swim- instruction skills.

Students are trained by lifeguards in basic water rescue and first aid, as well as the fundamentals of teaching swim lessons.

After completing the training class, students can earn community service hours at the Lynnwood pool as a junior lifeguard or swim instructor aide.

The next aquatic volunteer class is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to noon Sundays, Feb. 25 through March 16.

Arts Council plans fundraising event

The Monroe Arts Council offers its second annual celebration and fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Lord Hill Farms, 12525 Old Monroe-Snohomish Road, Snohomish.

The auction and masquerade ball feature artworks in live and silent auctions. Proceeds will support artists and art programs.

The event includes a Cajun dinner, wine, beer and nonalcoholic beverages and homemade desserts. The cost is $50 per person.
