Free class to relieve veterans’ stress

Nov. 11 is Veteran’s Day, when we honor those who served our country in times of war or peace.

The National Guild of Hypnotists, Washington State Chapter, offers a free class to help veterans relieve stress and maintain health. It’s planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at the south Snohomish County PUD auditorium, 21018 Highway 99, Edmonds.

Red Cross moves on Whidbey Island

The Island County Red Cross chapter house moved Thursday to new offices at 1150 SE Dock St. in Oak Harbor.

See gaseous cloud near comet tonight

If the weather is clear, see the gaseous cloud surrounding the core of Comet 17P Holmes.

It’s unknown why the cloud around the comet is growing, said Jim Bielaga, who owns Aurora Astro Products in Everett.

See for yourself, he said. Step outside after sunset, face north and look for the extra “star” in the thigh of Perseus. Comet Holmes is similar in brightness and appearance to the stars of the Big Dipper and easy to see.

Comcast to offer new channels

Through Dec. 6 Comcast is launching seven new channels, some in High Definition.

They include National Geographic HD, NFL Network HD, A&E HD, USA HD, History Channel HD, as well as Fox Business and CSPAN 3. Also, Comcast is launching new On-­Demand programming, including the Film Festival Channel and Seattle Comedy Open Mic.

Help Rotary club match its grant

The Rotary Club of Snohomish has recently been awarded a $3,000 matching grant from Rotary International to help purchase a SMART board system to benefit AIM High School. The total system includes an interactive whiteboard, a projector and a document camera, in conjunction with a computer.

The club must match this grant by Jan. 1. The total estimated cost of the system is $6,155.

The club is requesting that tax-deductible donations be made to the Snohomish Rotary Charitable Foundation, P.O. Box 537, Snoho­mish, WA 98291-0537.
