Shred documents at Mill Creek event

A free event, called Document Destruction Day, is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Mill Creek City Hall, 15728 Main St.

You don’t have to be a resident of Mill Creek. Bring up to four boxes of documents for destruction. It is not necessary to remove staples, paper clips and fasteners.

The purpose of the event is to help deter identity theft.

Alpacas on show this weekend

On Saturday and Sunday, 80 alpaca farms in Washington will be open for tours, including eight alpaca farms in Snohomish County. To see a list of participating farms, go to www.alpacafarmday.com.

National Alpaca Farm Day is sponsored by the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association.

Memorial service for firefighters set

The 22nd annual Washington State Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial Service is planned for 10 a.m. Sunday at the Capitol Rotunda in Olympia. This year, the service will honor firefighter Eric Lyon, who served with the Kennewick Fire Department. The service includes bagpipes, trumpeters and special presentations.

Donate to help injured toddler

An account has been established to help a 1-year-old Everett boy who was seriously injured Sept. 13. Donations to the Eryk Woodruff fund can be made at any Washington Mutual bank. The name of the fund was omitted from an information box on Page B10 on Thursday.

WSU online classes available

Washington State University’s Distance Degree Program is accepting registrations online at www.wsu.edu. Those planning to transfer into an online bachelor’s degree program in January should apply before Thanksgiving. WSU Learning Center coordinator Debra Lancaster can answer questions. Nate Hettinga’s name was misspelled in a story on Page A1 Wednesday about Silvertips announcer Dave Piland’s memorial service. Hettinga is pastor at Cascade Community Church in Monroe.
