Help us mark our calendar: Do you have a plant sale, home or garden tour or other event coming up? We want to know about it if you do.
Our summer-planning calendar will feature July, August and September events, and plant sales by local clubs and other nonprofit groups to help you get the most out of the sunny season.
Send the details of your event, including the time, date, place and a phone number for the public to contact, to reporter Sarah Jackson at sjackson@heraldnet.com, or call 425-339-3037 with questions. June 18 is the deadline.
Mail carriers gathered more than 70 million pounds of food nationally in last month’s annual charity drive.
The National Association of Letter Carriers said the total May 12 collection was 70,745,176 pounds of food.
The collected items were delivered to area food programs.
The total collected in more than 10,000 cities and towns is up slightly from last year, though not quite at the record set two years ago.
In 15 years, the Stamp Out Hunger collection has brought in more than 836 million pounds of food. This year’s total was augmented by the donation of 1 million pounds of products by the Campbell Soup Co.
You’ve probably heard about compact fluorescent lights by now. Also known as CFLs, they’re the energy-efficient light bulbs that look like a pig’s tail.
Has your family added any of the bulbs to your household recently? What is the quality of the light?
Reporter Sarah Jackson is looking for local people who’ve switched some of their bulbs from traditional incandescent to eco-friendly CFLs in response to rising energy costs, the new green movement or maybe even “An Inconvenient Truth.”
Contact Jackson by Monday for a story on CFLs at sjackson@heraldnet.com or 425-339-3037.
