When you set your clocks back on hour on Sunday for daylight-saving time, remember to check your smoke detectors and change their batteries.
Firefighters say changing smoke alarm batteries at least once a year is one of the simplest, most effective ways to reduce deaths and injuries from fires and smoke. Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire almost in half.
Carve a pumpkin under the waves
The annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest is scheduled for noon today in the dive park at Brackett’s Landing North.
The only rule is that the pumpkins must be carved underwater. The youngest kids on the beach at the time will judge the jack-o’-lanterns in two categories: scariest and funniest.
The winners will receive prizes donated by Edmonds Underwater Sports. The pumpkins are being donated by QFC.
Proceeds from a $10 entry fee will go toward maintaining the Edmonds Underwater Dive Park. Call Ralph Sweet at 206-265-9300.
