With support from a variety of local community, business and governmental leaders, Snohomish County will soon have a chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
The Greater Trinity Missionary Baptist Church will have a special kickoff event to mark the start of the chapter from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 6.
Organizers hope the chapter will expand dialogue between people of all ethnic backgrounds and will foster a progressive and diverse spirit of cooperation in the county.

United Way needs project ideas
Snohomish County organizations in need of volunteers may submit project ideas for the 13th annual United Way of Snohomish County Day of Caring.
On Sept. 16, more than 1,000 volunteers will paint, plant and build.

Attract butterflies to your garden
Friends of Camano Island Parks offers a free workshop on attracting butterflies to gardens at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 E. Camano Drive, Camano Island. The presentation includes slides and handouts.
Learn how to identify red admirals, painted ladies and other butterflies and discover ways of attracting them to your garden from Martha and Steve Ellis, Whidbey Island naturalists.
