Mountlake Terrace High School
“(Last week was) culture week, where we have musical acts come in and they perform their style during the lunch period for people eating. (Friday) was salsa, Latino music. We had African drums for two days. The first day was Jamaican steel drums. And we just had Terrace Idol – like ‘American Idol,’ but Terrace. And coming up we have Miss Terrace, a beauty pageant.”

Monroe honors a super secretary
Monroe High School secretary Dianne Linden was surprised at a recent school board meeting with the district’s Performance Plus Award of 2005.
Linden primarily serves as Associated Student Body secretary.
But after a ninth-grade wing was added last fall – with more than half the student body and one-third of the teachers new to the building – she also took on the roles of principal’s secretary, building financial officer and interim cheer adviser on top of training new secretaries.
“Most secretaries cannot do one job the way Dianne has done two” and then some, assistant superintendent Fran Mester said.

The Granite Falls School District wants to hear from local residents about the characteristics they want in a new high school principal.
The district will host a community meeting to gather input at 6 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Mountain Way Elementary School library, 702 N. Granite Ave.
This year’s principal, Larry Brown, was hired to fill an interim position to allow the district to do a full-scale search for a permanent replacement. The new principal will begin July 1.
Snohomish puts two levies on March ballot
Snohomish School District voters will be asked to approve two tax requests on the March 14 ballot.
A four-year maintenance and operations levy would replace an expiring one. The levy would raise $70 million over four years. The estimated tax rate each year would be $2.56 per $1,000 of assessed value, or $512 on a $200,000 house.
School leaders also are seeking a two-year transportation vehicle fund levy to purchase school buses. The levy would raise $1.4 million each year. The estimated rate would be 24 cents per $1,000 valuation the first year, or $48 per year on a $200,000 house.
