Update, 12:25 p.m.: We’ve gotten over many of our technical hurdles, and our upgraded comment system is now in place. Please give it a shot and let me know what you think at parry@heraldnet.com.
The new system should be much faster for you to use, and it should be a lot easier to log in and post new comments to the site. You can also now select a screen name for yourself; previously, only first and last name fields were available, so a lot of people have been using those to fake a screen name. If you have a log in but don’t have a screen name, click on the new “settings” link above the search form at the top right corner of any page.

Update, 11:30 a.m.: We ran into some unforeseen problems when upgrading our comments. We’re working on resolving those, but in the meantime, you may have trouble accessing some articles and may see some odd things on our site.

Our comment system will be down for (hopefully) a brief period of time between 9 and 10 this morning while we implement a much-needed upgrade. I’ll post an update when comments are available again.
