PORTLAND, Ore. — A woman who served on a federal grand jury in Portland, Oregon, has pleaded guilty for disclosing details of the secret proceedings, a crime rarely prosecuted.
Lori Ann Cubit (KYOO’-bit) admitted to U.S. District Court Judge Michael Mosman that she told her daughter some people were going to be indicted in a drug case involving gang members.
Federal prosecutor Scott Kerin said Wednesday an informant alerted agents that leaked secret testimony had found its way to a gang associate connected with targets of the investigation.
He says agents had to call off search warrants because of safety and tactical concerns.
Cubit is to be sentenced on the contempt of court charge July 8. Prosecutors and her lawyer have recommended probation instead of prison time.
