SEATTLE — A pit bull used as a weapon in an attack on two women is getting a new home at an animal sanctuary now that his former owner, a 16-year-old girl, has pleaded guilty to assault.
King County Animal Care and Control Manager Nancy McKenney says the dog named Snaps had been held at the county animal shelter as evidence but has been released after the girl entered her plea this week. McKenney says two independent behavior assessments the county commissioned from outside experts agreed with county staff that long-term care in a sanctuary was the dog’s only option due to his continued aggression toward people.
Olympic Animal Sanctuary in Forks has agreed to take him. McKenney says it provides for the care of non-adoptable canines such as fighting dogs, dogs that have killed other animals and wolf or coyote hybrids.
Two women were mauled in a confrontation June 21 on a SeaTac street.
King County prosecutors are recommending one year in confinement when the girl is sentenced Oct. 8 in juvenile court.
