STANWOOD — Construction crews are wrapping up work on a large fish culvert under Highway 532 and hope to reopen the main route from Stanwood and Camano Island to I-5 in time for the Monday morning commute.
Signs on the roadway will keep people updated on the reopening, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The highway has been closed while workers replace a fish culvert deemed too small with a larger passage, as required under a 2013 court ruling. The $5 million project led to a two-week detour for traffic.
Until the highway reopens, trucks and RVs should use Exit 221 and go through Conway to get to Stanwood. The passenger car detour is too narrow for larger vehicles.
Work to restore fish habitat along Church Creek is expected to continue after Highway 532 reopens.
