Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dino Rossi apparently knows how he’d vote on the nomination of Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court but he isn’t telling anyone.
His silence – as of noon today – is worth noting since the U.S. Senate is set to hold a confirmation vote this week.
Last week, I asked his campaign staff how he would vote. On July 28, I received an e-mail that he had a statement and it would be sent to me.
I have yet to receive it. I asked for it again this morning. And, like I said, as of noon, it hasn’t arrived.
It could be they’re busy. More likely, they’re weighing the strategic value of letting anyone know until it’s too late for anyone to care.
Think about it. If Rossi opposed the nomination he’d have made a big deal of it by now. Many conservatives around the country oppose Kagan’s nomination and it could only have helped him in that crowd. Republican Clint Didier opposes her nomination and he gets loud cheers at events when he makes it known.
If Rossi says he would vote for her it would put him in the same position as U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-WA.. And it’s hard to run against someone with whom you agree.
Meanwhile today, the news from the Rossi camp is the number of Facebook followers he’s racked up since entering the race.
