BELLEVUE — Interstate 405 through downtown Bellevue will be closed in both directions this weekend so a demolition team can break up and remove the Northeast 12th Street overpass.
A new, larger overpass is being built. It’s all part of a Washington Transportation Department project to separate traffic merging northbound onto I-405 from vehicles shifting right to reach State Highway 520.
The Seattle Times says an estimated 450,000 vehicles typically pass through the area each weekend. Detour routes will be available but state officials are urging drivers to cancel unnecessary trips.
It all starts with single lane closures at 8 p.m. Friday, followed by a full shutdown between Northeast Eighth Street and Highway 520 between 11 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Monday.
