Kayak Point Park seems to have it all: a beach, a fishing pier, a boat launch, forested walking trails and yurts for overnight stays.
Still, there might be ways to improve upon a good thing. The Snohomish County Parks Department has scheduled a public meeting next week to gather ideas.
“We want to hear from people. That’s really what this is all about,” county parks director Tom Teigen said. “Kayak is one of the most heavily attended parks that we have, and really one of the most loved parks.”
During the summer, the crowds often pack Kayak Point beyond capacity. Yet the park’s design has changed little since it opened in 1972.
The meeting on Wednesday night is a chance to brainstorm ideas for the park’s future, Teigen said. Parks staff hope to draft redevelopment plans based on those ideas and present them during another public meeting in the spring.
Some issues Teigen expected to come up: expanding the parking area, building more trails, restoring habitat along the park’s saltwater shoreline and fixing a loop road that’s frequently blocked by logs.
Wednesday’s meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Lake Goodwin Community Club, 17323 42nd Ave. NW, Stanwood. The park itself is on 15610 Marine Drive, between Tulalip and Warm Beach.
