MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — The police department is accepting applications for the next citizens academy in Mountlake Terrace. The classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the Mountlake Terrace library beginning April 21.
Space for the class is limited to 30, so people are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. March 31.
Those who take the class will learn about canine units, SWAT and narcotics, among other topics. They also will go on a ridealong with a police officer.
The class will wrap up June 30. Afterward, there will be a graduation reception for all the participants and their families.
Applicants have to undergo a background check before they are accepted into the class.
