SEATTLE — Under a new state law that allows repeat drunken drivers to be convicted of felonies, a woman has been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison.
Following a trial in King County Superior Court, 35—year-old Eryn Paull was found guilty by a jury in May of felony driving under the influence.
Paull was the first King County defendant to be prosecuted and convicted under the new law, which was enacted in July 2007 by the Legislature.
On Friday, Paull was given the high end of the sentence range by Judge Dean Lum, who called her an “extreme risk.”
Paull was arrested on the night of Aug. 27. Prosecutors say her blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.18 — more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 — four hours after her arrest. The State Patrol pulled her over after seeing her Land Rover weaving on Interstate 405. Troopers say her vehicle nearly hit several cars and construction workers.
Court documents showed Paull had already been convicted of four DUI charges within the past decade.
