SEATTLE — Pacific Lutheran University students will have a royal visit at their graduation: King Harald V of Norway will deliver the commencement address.
KING-TV reported that the king will be in Tacoma Saturday to deliver the address and receive an honorary doctorate from the university.
King Harald began his visit on Thursday by joining Gov. Jay Inslee for lunch at Restaurant Aqua on the Seattle waterfront.
Fishermen in Ballard, a community with a large Norwegian population and close ties to the country, greeted the king Friday at a shipyard.
Norway is a constitutional monarchy, and King Harald’s duties are mostly ceremonial. He belongs to the House of Glucksburg, which has ruled since 1905.
