Democrat John Ladenburg announced today he’s no longer exploring a run for state attorney general in 2012.
Instead, Ladenburg , a former Pierce County executive and county prosecutor, declared his intention to run for a seat on the state Supreme Court.
In a press release, he states:
“I spent months deliberating but I feel confident in my decision. The Supreme Court needs candidates with broad experience in law. While I have experience in public policy that would benefit an Attorney General, my passion is in the law and the Supreme Court needs experienced attorneys as it goes through expected big transitions.”
However, he’s not saying yet whose seat he will seek next year.
Justices Gerry Alexander, Tom Chambers and Susan Owens are up for re-election. Alexander, who stepped down as chief justice in 2010, is the one most likely to not run again.
Ladenburg, who lost a 2008 challenge to Republican incumbent Attorney General Rob McKenna, had been pondering another try for several months.
His decision leaves King County Councilmembers Reagan Dunn, a Republican, and Bob Ferguson, a Democrat, as the frontrunners in the race as of now.
