LAKE STEVENS — The city is offering $10,000 in grants to social service agencies that provide services to residents.
The city has set side money each year to give to area groups since 1993, city clerk Norma Scott said.
"A council member felt we should give back to our community to those in need," Scott said, adopting a policy to give money to area organizations serving local residents.
Last year, the city gave $378 to Sherwood Community Center for parents night out and kids activities; $500 to Red Cross Project Pride to help those who can’t pay electricity bills; $400 to Coreteen Seminars for two scholarships for teen programs; $750 to Providence Home Services/Hospice of Snohomish County for hospice and home care services; $5,000 to Lutheran Social Services for assistance programs at the Lake Stevens Family Center; $1,800 to the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank for emergency food programs; and $322 to the Lake Stevens Senior Center for a foot clinic.
Applications for this year’s grants must be received by 5 p.m. March 22.
Organizations must have formal non-profit status and show they are serving Lake Stevens residents.
Call Scott at 425-377-3225 for information or e-mail her at normas@ci.lake-stevens.wa.us.
An advisory committee comprised of two citizens, the mayor, a council member and the city clerk will make recommendations on which organizations will receive money this year, Scott said.
An announcement on the grant recipients is expected in late April or early May, she added.
