TACOMA — This is the last weekend to see Beethoven the beluga whale at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma.
He’ll be flown next week to his new home at Sea World in San Antonio.
Curator John Rupp told The News Tribune of Tacoma on Thursday that the 16-year-old male beluga is in good health and will have an opportunity to breed.
The move will leave the Tacoma aquarium without a beluga. Beethoven’s companion Qannik died in March of a blood infection.
The zoo plans to use the beluga pool for harbor seals.
