LYNNWOOD – Detectives from south Snohomish County compared notes Wednesday about more than a dozen recent business break-ins.
In the past six weeks, crooks hit at least eight Lynnwood businesses, five in Mountlake Terrace and four in Mill Creek. It doesn’t appear that the same person was responsible for the burglaries, Lynnwood detective Josh Kelsey said.
In Lynnwood, burglars broke into five businesses Sept. 1 at Alderwood Towne Center, 3205 Alderwood Mall Blvd. The burglars broke into a vacant business, then cut through drywall to reach others, he said.
In Mountlake Terrace, police are investigating one break-in similar to Lynnwood’s and five where a heavy object was thrown through a window or door to gain entry, Sgt. Craig McCaul said.
In Mill Creek, police are investigating four business burglaries that occurred Aug. 31. Detective Chris White said she’s investigating whether they’re connected to those in other areas.
Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call police.
Suspects in construction site burglaries arrested
Police have arrested three people and recovered thousands of dollars worth of items stolen from construction sites in south Snohomish County. Lynnwood officers arrested two men Friday and another last week, detective Josh Kelsey said. Police found cabinets, a stove, industrial equipment, propane heaters, tools and other items from at least four construction sites. “They helped themselves to anything not nailed down, and some stuff nailed down, too,” Lynnwood Sgt. Sean Doty said. Officers found the items in a stolen moving truck on Friday. Police followed the truck and arrested the men after they allegedly tried to steal packages containing a wedding dress and financial documents, Kelsey said. Some property has been returned to the victims, he said.
Sultan: Possible meth lab found in car trunk
Three people were arrested Tuesday after police found what appeared to be methamphetamine cooked in the trunk of a car. A Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy was called about 12:30 p.m. to the Sultan Basin Road after a citizen reported suspicious activity. The deputy called Sultan police, who provided a drug dog, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said. Police found what appeared to be a meth operation in the vehicle, Jorgensen said. The Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force and the South Snohomish County Hazardous Materials team were called to the vehicle. Police arrested two men and one woman, in their early to mid-20s, for investigation of manufacturing a controlled substance. The suspects were booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
Mill Creek: Bomb threats draw sentence
A former Jackson High School student was sentenced to 240 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty to e-mailing bomb threats to the school. In a letter to the judge, Jacob Choi-Kang, 19, of Mill Creek apologized and said he sent the threats because “the school work has been really hard, and I just couldn’t handle it anymore.” Snohomish County Superior Court Judge George Bowden followed recommendations of a deputy prosecutor and a defense attorney, giving Choi-Kang a break because it is his first criminal offense. He could have served up to nine months in the county jail. He was accused of sending bomb threats in November and December. The school was evacuated in at least one incident.
Bothell: Road rage tied to shooting, trooper says
Police arrested a driver on Highway 527 Tuesday night who allegedly fired a pellet gun at another vehicle. Investigators suspect the shooting was motivated by road rage, Washington State Patrol Lt. Jeff Jones said. The pellet struck near the top of the other driver’s vehicle but didn’t enter the interior, Jones said. The driver was not hurt. The incident was reported around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. A trooper arrested the alleged shooter, 38, on suspicion of first-degree assault with a weapon. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
