Suspicious man prompts Everett school lockdown
EVERETT – A man wearing a bulletproof vest, carrying a briefcase and complaining about the Everett School District prompted staff on Monday to lockdown Sequoia High School.
The man, 49, reportedly walked into the school office and began ranting about problems he has with the school district. School officials immediately called police and locked down the school, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
The school resource officer from Everett High School raced to the campus, located on Rucker Avenue. The officer was able to speak with the man inside the principal’s office and the school returned to normal operations.
“No students or staff were in any danger,” Goetz said. “The man was cooperative with us.”
The man wasn’t armed and didn’t make any threats, Goetz said. He is the parent of a student in the district, and allowed officers to search his car. Police were trying to determine why the man wore a bulletproof vest to the school.
He was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Motorcyclist on new bike strikes parked car
An Everett man escaped serious injuries after crashing his new motorcycle into a parked car Monday morning.
The man, 20, reportedly lost control of his 2007 Kawasaki EX650 near 10th Street and Lombard Avenue. He collided with a parked car, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
The man said he was having mechanical problems with the motorcycle just prior to the crash, but witnesses contradicted that report, Goetz said. Witnesses told officers the man was up on one wheel before the collision.
The motorcyclist appeared to have minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. No one else was hurt in the incident.
Man arrested; police say he fled, hit patrol car
A man was arrested after he allegedly led police on a chase Sunday and rammed a Snohomish County deputy’s patrol car.
The pursuit began after Everett officers reported over police radio that a man was driving recklessly in south Everett. Deputies spotted the Honda Accord and attempted to stop the driver. He allegedly refused to stop and led police on a short chase, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
During the pursuit, the man reportedly drove toward deputies, clipping one patrol car and hitting another head on, Hover said. The suspect ran from the car and struggled with deputies before he was restrained.
Deputies found a large amount of what they believe to be drugs during the incident, Hover said.
The deputy involved in the head-on crash was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released, Hover said. The suspect also was treated for minor injuries and has since been booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of eluding police and drug possession.
