ALLYN, Wash. — Mason County authorities have arrested a 28-year-old man sought on a robbery warrant after a wild chase that included a deputy wounded by gunfire.
The chase began Friday when deputies pursued a white car on Highway 3 after recognizing it from an earlier incident. Other deputies set up a roadblock. Chief Deputy Dean Byrd says the driver rammed his car through the roadblock. Byrd says gunshots were fired at that point and a deputy ended up with a wounded leg but it wasn’t immediately clear who fired. The deputy was treated at a local hospital.
The fleeing car soon crashed and the driver fled but Byrd says deputies with tracking dogs found the man in a creek bed in nearby woods.
Byrd says Kristofer Nickerson of Bainbridge Island was arrested. He had been sought on a $250,000 arrest warrant in a Kitsap County armed robbery.
The North Mason School District briefly put schools under lockdown.
