Police said they arrested a Spokane man near the Red Dragon Casino late Wednesday after he tried to rob a man.
The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. in the 21900 block of Highway 99, Mountlake Terrace police Sgt. Doug Hansen said.
A man was leaving the casino when the suspect, 37, approached him in the parking lot asking for a smoke, Hansen said.
When the man, 34, said he didn’t smoke, the suspect demanded his wallet. The man saw the suspect was holding a collapsible metal baton, similar to the kind police use, in his hand, Hansen said.
The man ran away and the suspect wasn’t able to keep up. Police arrived and found the suspect trying to drive off.
He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree robbery.
