An Everett man already in jail for slashing his former girlfriend’s throat has been charged with trying to hire somebody to kill her.
David W. Kaylor, 25, appeared briefly Thursday in Everett District Court where he was ordered jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail.
He was charged Wednesday with solicitation to commit first-degree murder. The single-page criminal complaint alleges Kaylor tried to hire somebody to kill the woman sometime between Aug. 19 and Dec. 10.
He’s already pleaded guilty to attacking the woman Aug. 20 as she walked up her apartment stairs. The knifing was prompted by Kaylor’s inability to accept that the relationship was over, prosecutors allege.
The new allegations of attempted murder-for-hire surfaced last week after officials intercepted a letter on Dec. 20 at the Snohomish County Jail in Everett. In the letter, the defendant allegedly tried to convince a former inmate to take the woman’s life.
Prosecutors say they will seek up to 22 years on the attempted murder and will seek a consecutive sentence of about the same duration if Kaylor is convicted of the new charge.
Prosecutors have until Jan. 11 to bring the new charge against Kaylor in Snohomish County Superior Court. Once that happens, he’ll enter a plea and a trial date can be set.
Kaylor is being held in isolation at the jail pending a Jan. 31 sentencing on the earlier charge.
