SEATTLE — A 46-year-old man has been charged in the death of his estranged girlfriend Saturday south of Seattle.
The Seattle Times reported Rashied Mitchell was charged Wednesday with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and domestic-violence felony violation of a court order.
Prosecutors said Mitchell shot 33-year-old Tabitha Apling during an argument while their two young children were present in a Federal Way apartment.
Police believe Mitchell also shot himself and said he was taken to a Seattle hospital in critical condition.
Charging papers said no-contact orders were issued Sept. 12 directing Mitchell not to have contact with Apling or the children. Mitchell has a history of domestic-violence convictions involving different victims, dating back to 1991, the papers say.
Mitchell remains in jail on $5 million bail.
