An Everett man with a history of arrests for violence was jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail Monday in connection with the killing of a 17-year-old girl.
Robert Dale Woods, 21, was arrested Friday after he summoned police to a south Everett apartment and the apparent sexual assault killing of an Everett teen.
Woods told officers he had been staying at the apartment, had left to go drinking and returned to find the 17-year-old near death, according to a search warrant filed in Everett District Court.
When aid crews arrived, they determined the girl was dead. She had been bound and appeared to be the victim of a sexual assault, according to court papers.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday identified the slain girl as Jolene E. Desrosier. An autopsy showed she was strangled.
Detectives obtained a search warrant to examine the apartment and a car that Woods allegedly had been driving the day of the killing. Inside the car, they found a partial roll of duct tape, consistent with the tape used to bind the girl, according to court papers.
Everett police spokesman Boyd Bryant said the case remains under investigation, but he declined other details.
Woods "was moderately cooperative with the officers. He was the one who called it in," Bryant said.
Woods’ bail was set Sunday during a hearing in Everett District Court. No charges have been filed.
Woods has a history of arrests and prosecution for physical assaults, both as a juvenile and an adult. He also has been the focus of three domestic violence protection cases, the most recent in August.
