LAKE STEVENS — A man injured in a Lake Stevens-area crash that is under investigation as a possible vehicular assault was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Monday in serious condition.
The 33-year-old Everett man suffered liver and spleen injuries and possible broken ribs in a head-on crash about 7:35 p.m. Saturday on Lundeen Parkway and Highway 9.
A 26-year-old woman in the man’s 1980 Dodge van was injured and listed in satisfactory condition at Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus. The other driver, a 27-year-old Everett woman, was to be released from the Colby Campus Monday, hospital spokeswoman Cheri Russum said.
The Everett woman was driving a Ford pickup westbound on Lundeen Parkway, and the man was eastbound when the two vehicles collided in the eastbound lane, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
Authorities closed the road until 11 p.m. Deputies say the Everett woman allegedly was intoxicated and had been driving so erratically that people had followed her across the trestle, but lost sight of her when she allegedly drove through a stoplight at Highway 204 and Highway 9, Jorgensen said.
"It’s fortunate that speed was not a factor," she said. "If it had been a high-impact due to speed, it could have been fatal."
