CENTRAL POINT, Ore. – The San Francisco man who died in the mountains of Southern Oregon after leaving his family to seek help succumbed to hypothermia, and his body was found in a creek’s shallow water, authorities said Thursday.
Lt. Gregg Hastings of the Oregon State Police said James Kim, 35, was found, fully clothed, on his back in Big Windy Creek near the Rogue River.
After leaving his stranded family, he walked more than 10 miles over rugged terrain looking for help, but his body was found only about a mile from his family car, Hastings said.
Benton City: Mayor gets jail sentence
A Benton County judge has sentenced this southeastern Washington city’s mayor to seven days in jail for lying to police about a confrontation with a neighbor.
A jury last week convicted Mayor Bryan Robinson of a misdemeanor charge of making a false or misleading statement to a public servant. The charge stemmed from an Aug. 17 incident, when Robinson called police to report he had been assaulted by a neighbor.
However, the neighbor and his girlfriend testified that the assault never happened.
Oregon: Man dies when car plunges into river
A man in his 90s died when his car plunged into the Columbia River, Portland, Ore., police said Thursday.
The victim was not immediately identified.
The man was believed to be having a medical problem when his car went off a street early Thursday, police said.
After rescue teams saw the glow of the car’s taillights in the river, a diver pulled the man from the car.
