SEATTLE — A man is dead after being struck by an Amtrak train in southwest Washington.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas says the crash occurred at a non-rail crossing at 6:40 p.m. Sunday near Castle Rock.
Melonas says the man hasn’t been identified but is believed to be a transient from the area.
The tracks were shut down until shortly after 9 p.m., delaying eight trains.
The passenger train was en route from Portland to Seattle.
Melonas says it was the first train fatality in Washington this year. He says there were more than 20 last year.
