An Everett man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a felony charge accusing him of abandoning his 2-year-old for hours in an apartment while he went in search of cocaine.
Darius A. Fields, 24, appeared briefly in Snohomish County Superior Court, where he was ordered jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Prosecutors have charged Fields with second-degree abandonment of a dependent person. They allege Fields left his toddler son alone in a third-floor apartment with an open door leading to a balcony while he bought drugs and got high for six hours. The child was taken to a safe place by the apartment manager.
