A man who videotaped naked children at his home in Stanwood was sentenced to 131/2 years in prison Thursday for various sexual offenses against a 10-year-old girl.
Nathan Edward Sandefer, 52, pleaded guilty in March to first-degree child rape, child molestation and sexual exploitation of a minor.
Witnesses told investigators that Sandefer showered and sat naked in a hot tub with children, and slept in the same bed with the girl, a relative.
Authorities became aware of the situation in September when the girl disclosed to her mother that Sandefer had touched her inappropriately several times over the previous few years.
Deputy prosecutor Matt Baldock said Sandefer was a long-haul truck driver. Since 2000, he had taken the girl and her brother on extended trips during the summer.
Baldock said Sandefer and the girl would sleep in the same area in the semitruck.
The girl told investigators that Sandefer showed her cartoons of naked characters and of naked girls on his computer.
When Sandefer gets out of prison is uncertain, Baldock said.
A review board will examine his case at the end of his sentence to determine if he is safe to be released. The state could keep him locked up indefinitely, Baldock said.
