EVERETT — The man who held Everett police at bay for hours in May by threatening them with a grenade has been sentenced to six months in jail.
Jason Riley broke into a home in the 3800 block of Wetmore Avenue. When confronted by officers, Riley, 41, warned them he was armed with an explosive. The cops backed out of the house and moved people out of the area. Heavily-armed officers then converged on the neighborhood.
About eight hours later, officers went into the house and found Riley hiding in the attic. Police never recovered a grenade.
Riley pleaded guilty last month to residential burglary and threats to bomb.
The home was contaminated by the pepper spray that police used to try to drive Riley out, a judge was told earlier this week. The couple, their children and pets were forced out of the house for months.
