Man surrenders after standoff in Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD – A Lynnwood man was arrested early Monday after he allegedly fired a shot at a man during a dispute, then refused to come out of his home for more than four hours.

The man, 34, allegedly fired a shot over the head of another man after the two had an argument about car payments shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, said Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen. No one was hurt.

That man and the other residents of the house fled, she said. But the armed suspect wouldn’t come out when deputies arrived at the home near the intersection of 164th Street SW and Ash Way, Jorgensen said.

The Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team persuaded the man to surrender about 12:30 p.m.

“Our negotiators did an excellent job in talking to him and convincing him to come out without hurting himself or anyone else,” Jorgensen said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and first-degree possession of a firearm.

Marysville

Home burns: Fire caused heavy damage to the living room of a Marysville home Monday.

The fire was reported about 1:10 p.m. at 6600 72nd St. NE, Marysville Fire Department spokesman Nathan Trauernicht said.

Firefighters used a thermal-imaging camera to discover that the fire was burning underneath the home’s fireplace, he said.

“The fire was actually under the floor. The floorboards were underneath the fire box,” Trauernicht said.

Firefighters were forced to tear up the wall by the fireplace and a large part of the floor to extinguish the fire, he said.

Arlington Fire Department’s Support 46 aid unit helped the family find another place to stay Monday night.

Everett

Robbery victim beaten: An Everett man suffered a broken arm and leg when he was beaten and robbed Sunday, police said.

The victim, 47, was attacked in the 3800 block of Smith Street, Everett Sgt. Ted Olafson said. The robbers used a golf club and baseball bat, he said.

Officers arrested one man, 27, of Marysville, near 37th Street and Broadway. The suspect allegedly had the victim’s gold bracelet, police said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and first-degree assault and booked into the Snohomish County Jail.

Drive-by shooting: No one was hurt in a drive-by shooting early Friday in the 1300 block of Chestnut Street. Seven rounds were fired at the home of a 20-year-old Everett woman, police said. Three shots struck the front window. The shots were fired from a car that pulled up near the house. The shooting happened about 12:10 a.m. Friday. The motive for the shooting is unknown, Everett Sgt. Ted Olafson said.

Stanwood

Accident victim identified: A man who was killed Friday when his pickup was hit by an Amtrak passenger train has been identified as Omer C. Thon, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Thon was headed to a farm on the other side of the railroad tracks when the train struck his pickup at a rural crossing north of Stanwood.

Investigators are trying to determine how the crash happened. The pickup appeared to have stopped on the tracks, according to some accounts, said Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen.

The train was traveling at its normal speed of 60 to 70 mph when it hit the truck.
