EVERETT — Two teen-age criminal suspects could run, but they couldn’t hide from an intense manhunt.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies Saturday arrested two teen-agers who are suspected of fleeing from a deputy Friday morning along Highway 9 near Lake Stevens. During the chase, one of the teens allegedly used an open sunroof to stand and fire two shots at the deputy.
The boys, both 17, crashed their car, then escaped an hours-long manhunt involving two helicopters, dogs and heat-sensing devices Friday. During the hunt, Glenwood Elementary School was closed and neighbors were told to stay indoors.
Both teens were found at a residence in north Everett early Saturday morning as they were preparing to leave, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen. Deputies arrested the pair without incident.
The teens were booked into Snohomish County Jail, where the alleged driver is being held on suspicion of drive-by shooting, attempting to elude, and an outstanding warrant for reckless driving. The alleged passenger is being held on suspicion of assault with a weapon.
Both are being held without bail because of alleged parole violations.
Jorgensen credited extensive media coverage for helping deputies find the two. Deputies were acting on a tip from someone who saw photographs of the suspects in media reports, she said.
