MARYSVILLE — Legacy High School, an alternative school in the Marysville School District, is offering a new online learning option for certain courses and electives.
The district began the program, Legacy Online, in mid-January and recently expanded it, district spokesperson Jodi Runyon said. Limited seats are available for the current school year, according to a district release, but more students will be able to take part in the 2025-26 school year. Students can join the program at the start of each quarter.
Classes — which can be taught synchronously, asynchronously, or both — include math, English, science, social studies, world languages and some electives. Students may be required to visit campus for some activities, including state assessments, the district said.
Some criteria must be met before a student can be accepted into the program, but it is still a “work in progress,” Runyon said in an email Friday. Each student’s application is looked at on an individual basis, based on meeting alternative learning experience requirements.
Those may include a written student plan, weekly check-ins with a teacher and a monthly review to determine progress. Other criteria could include grade level assessments, review of a student’s graduation plan, showing the ability to work independently, or current academic progress, Runyon said.
The district is set to move Legacy High School to a different campus in the 2025-26 school year due to closures the district put in place to balance next year’s budget amid financial strife.
