MARYSVILLE — The Marysville City Council appointed Peter Condyles to fill a vacancy this week.
The Position 1 seat became vacant in June after five-term council member Jeffrey Vaughan resigned to move out of state. Eighteen applied for the position and the council interviewed six finalists on Monday.
At 24, Condyles is the youngest member of the council. He is a project manager with Toyer Strategic Advisors, a Lake Stevens economic development and land use consulting firm.
He is also president of the Marysville Historical Society and serves on the board of the League of Snohomish County Heritage Organization, in addition to Mayor Jon Nehring’s task force on growth management and the city’s Community Development Block Grant committee.
In his application, Condyles wrote he has attended 108 council meetings over three years. He said his top three priorities are public safety, housing and city beautification.
“Peter is very well qualified and prepared,” Council President Kamille Norton said Monday.
The other candidates interviewed were Janet Keefe, Kristin Kinnamon, Deirdre Kvangnes, Katie Sutherland and Brad Thompson.
On Monday, Condyles was also appointed as vice chair of the Mainstream Republicans of Washington, according to a news release from the political action organization. Nehring is the past chair of the group. The Marysville council position is a nonpartisan role.
Condyles will serve until Dec. 31, 2023, and the seat will be open for the general election in November 2023. The person elected will serve the remainder of the original term ending Dec. 31, 2025.
