Republican presidential front-runner Sen. John McCain is planning to visit Seattle on Friday evening.
McCain is scheduled to appear at 6 p.m. at the Westin Hotel, 1900 Fifth Ave. The event is open to the public.
McCain’s visit comes on the heels of the departure from the race of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Romney had a disappointing showing in the Super Tuesday primaries and caucuses Feb. 5 and announced that he was suspending his campaign today.
Janet Huckabee, the wife of Republican presidential hopeful and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, is scheduled to lead in a rally at noon Friday at Northwest University in Kirkland, 5520 108th Ave. NE.
McCain is scheduled to make a short speech, take questions and then mingle with the crowd.
The Washington state Republican party is allocating roughly half its delegates from Saturday’s caucuses and the other half from the Feb. 19 primary election.
The Democratic party is allocating all its delegates from Saturday’s caucuses. Democratic candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton is scheduled to hold a rally at 8 p.m. tonight at Pier 30 on the Seattle waterfront. Sen. Barack Obama has a rally planned for 11 a.m. Friday at KeyArena.
