Missing man’s body found on Whidbey

WHIDBEY ISLAND – The body of a missing Shoreline kayaker was discovered Tuesday morning on a beach at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.

Someone camping on the beach below Cliffside Park found the body of Jeffrey Paul Scherling, 55, Island County Coroner Robert Bishop said. Scherling had been kayaking around Deception Pass on Sunday. His wife reported him missing when he didn’t return from his trip, Bishop said.
