OAK HARBOR – Reports that Elaine Sepulveda, a 15-year-old Oak Harbor girl missing since Nov. 6, had been seen Wednesday near Arlington were erroneous, police said Sunday.
Three volunteer firefighters told police they gave a cold and hungry girl resembling Sepulveda some hot chocolate at a firehouse outside Arlington. But Snohomish County deputies followed clues given by the girl who came to the fire station and determined it was not the missing girl, said Oak Harbor Police Sgt. Jerry Baker.
The girl who came to the fire station was about the same size and age as Sepulveda, Baker said. While talking to the firefighters, the girl mentioned a couple of people’s names and a motel, he said. Saturday, deputies tracked down the people she mentioned. They confirmed that they knew the girl who went to the fire station and that it was not Sepulveda, Baker said.
The girl who visited the fire station, an Arlington-area resident, has a warrant for her arrest and was still at large Sunday night, Baker said.
Meanwhile, Sepulveda’s parents have been notified that the girl was not their daughter, Baker said.
“We’re back to where we were, missing and no idea where she’s at,” Baker said. The FBI talked to the girl’s grandparents and some friends in El Paso, Texas, where she had lived before, but turned up nothing, he said.
Sepulveda is about 5 feet tall and 115 to 130 pounds and might be four months pregnant. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Jerry Baker of the Oak Harbor Police Department, 360-240-2818, during business hours, or a dispatcher at 360-679-9567.
