MONROE — The City Council has banned recreational marijuana growing, processing and retail operations here.
The council unanimously decided to prohibit businesses operating under Initiative 502, which established a legal recreational marijuana system in Washington, after a public hearing last week. The ban takes effect Sunday.
Monroe previously allowed recreational marijuana production and processing in some industrial areas. Pot retailers were permitted in some commercial areas.
Medical marijuana gardens and dispensaries are also banned.
