MONROE — Monroe police detective Anthony Lyle has been selected to help provide law enforcement for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
His selection for the prestigious detail provides "a great learning opportunity" for Lyle and also gives the command "an exceptional officer with a great deal of experience" in day-to-day public safety operations, said Monroe Police Chief Colleen Wilson.
Lyle is an 11-year veteran of the department.
The Utah Olympic Public Safety Command created a program to supplement Utah police with out-of-state volunteers. Officers from around the country are helping with security and policing of the Olympic venues. Each volunteer will be issued a winter uniform and an official Olympic police badge. They will be provided housing, meals and training. Volunteers arrange their own transportation to and from the games.
The games are scheduled for Feb. 8 to 24 in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas.
