MONROE — Beginning Thursday, drivers in Monroe can face tickets if they are caught by traffic-enforcement cameras rolling through some red lights or speeding in two school zones.
The school zones in front of Fryelands Elementary School on Fryelands Boulevard and Frank Wagner Elementary School on Main Street will be enforced through June 22, which is the end of the school year.
City officials said the goal is to get drivers to slow down and be aware of the speed limit.
Red-light violations occur when a driver enters an intersection after the signal light has turned red.
An officer will review each violation before issuing a ticket. The fine is $124.
The violations do not become part of the driver’s record and are not reported to insurance companies.
