Motorcycle, bus collide, injuring 52-year-old rider

EVERETT – A 52-year-old man was injured Wednesday night when the motorcycle he was driving collided with an Everett Transit bus in north Everett, police and firefighters reported.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Cedar Street about 6 p.m.

The man, whose hometown was not immediately available, sustained head injuries and was transported by Everett paramedics to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

“The investigation is ongoing regarding the facts and circumstances that resulted in the collision,” said Everett Police Sgt. Robert Goetz.

A few classes were cancelled midday at Everett Community College on Wednesday after someone used a fire extinguisher to quench a small blaze in a biology lab, officials said.

The fire broke out at about 11:45 a.m. in Shuksan Hall, college spokeswoman Katherine Schiffner said.

Someone tried to use a blanket to put out the fire. When that didn’t work they sprayed the fire with an extinguisher, she said.

No one was hurt and the building was evacuated.

Everett firefighters used fans to clear the building of smoke and chemicals from the fire extinguisher, Schiffner said.

The college cancelled some noon classes and some afternoon classes were relocated, she said.

Classes had resumed as scheduled by 4 p.m.

Edmonds: Amusement center robber sought

Police are looking for a man who robbed an amusement center Monday afternoon and was caught on video surveillance.

The man went into the Whirlyball Amusement Center in the 23400 block of Highway 99 at about 4 p.m., Edmonds police Sgt. Debbie Smith said. He told employees that he had a gun. After the holdup, he fled on a red mountain bike, she said.

Police believe the man may also be involved with a Feb. 2 robbery at the Rite Aid in the 22500 block of Highway 99, she said. The person involved in that robbery left in a small, old, dirty hatchback.

The man is described as 5-foot, 8-inches to 6 feet tall and in his 20s. He was described as a light skinned black, with a stocky build and a mustache. During Monday’s holdup, he was wearing a blue knit cap, sunglasses, a navy blue puffy jacket, a red T-shirt, blue jeans and light colored shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call detective Dave Honnen at 425-771-0283.

A fire that likely started near a hot tub spread up a wall and into the attic before it was extinguished Tuesday, Snohomish fire officials said.

The fire broke out just after 10:30 p.m. in the 12700 block of 69th Avenue SE. Firefighters found the roof and attic on fire and quickly doused the flames.

Damage to the house was estimated at more than $100,000. One person suffered some smoke inhalation.

An Everett man, 58, was taken to a Seattle hospital after being hit by a car while crossing Highway 99 on Wednesday morning, police said.

The man was recovering in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center, Washington State Patrol trooper Kirk Rudeen said.

The collision occurred about 6 a.m. in the 13600 block of Highway 99, he said. The man stepped out from the median and was hit by a maroon 1996 Dodge Stratus, Rudeen said.

The driver, a Lynnwood man, 28, drove away and then returned about an hour later, Rudeen said. The man called 911 and told dispatchers he thought he might have hit someone.

Police are investigating.

Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives hope to answer questions at a March 22 meeting about a registered sex offender.

Jonathan C. Wienker, 23, plans to live in the 18800 block of Smokey Point Boulevard, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Wienker pleaded guilty last year to communication with a minor for immoral purposes and was sentenced to two years in prison.

He sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl he met through a telephone chat line, police said. Prior to that conviction, Wienker pled guilty to child rape and child molestation in Douglas County. Wienker sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy.

Wienker is under the supervision of the state Department of Corrections and is prohibited from having any contact with children or frequenting any locations where children may be.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 22 at Shoultes Elementary School Gym, 13525 51st Ave. NE, Marysville. The meeting was originally scheduled for March 1 but was cancelled because of snow.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies are looking for two men who they believe tried to lure two children, ages 7 and 8, officials said.

On Feb. 15, the two men allegedly pulled up to one of the boy’s home on 228th Street W. and called the boys over, said Rebecca Hover, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

The boys ran away and the men drove off in a small red pickup truck, she said.

Police were alerted after an elementary school librarian overheard the boys talking about it the next day, Hover said.

The driver is described as black, wearing a black hat and sunglasses. The passenger is described as white, short blond hair, wearing a black baseball cap sideways, a black V-necked shirt, baggy black long shorts and black tennis shoes. He’s believed to be about 5-feet, 8-inces tall, clean-shaven with vertical scars on both cheeks and a diagonal scar on his forehead.

Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’s detective Steve Martin at 425-388-6397.
