MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A Mountlake Terrace man apparently wanted to make sure his ex-girlfriend knew he was responsible for trying to burn down her house.
He left her phone messages saying he’d not only done the deed but even claimed to have scorched his eyebrows, according to court papers.
Mountlake Terrace police arrested the man, 55, for investigation of arson.
The man is believed responsible for setting several fires Sunday inside a home in the 22500 block of 56th Avenue W. Whoever is responsible broke into the home.
A neighbor saw smoke and called 911. Crews from Snohomish County Fire District 1 were able to keep the fire from spreading.
Investigators found a melted gasoline container in the building. They learned that a woman was trying to buy the home. When contacted, she told them about receiving several voicemail messages from her ex-boyfriend claiming he’d set the house on fire.
The man was arrested Sunday evening after a standoff. He refused to open the door at his home and was found hiding in a closet.
